Previously worked in fee-for-service financial planning for senior corporate executives (Burns Fry - Toronto) and in the field with life insurance agents (Mutual Life, Clarica, Sun Life) providing financial planning for a wide range of clients. Before that, had worked in client services at a bank and as a researcher for the Nova Scotia Royal Commission on Pensions (March, 1983)
Was among the first group to write and pass the RFP exam in 1988.
President of CAFP-Atlantic for three years. Helped to co-ordinate the annual national convention in Halifax in 1996 and to mentor RFP candidates.
Has held the CFP designation since April, 1996.
Taught courses leading to the CFP designation at Nova Scotia Community College from 1997 to 2004. Full-time instructor for the Investment Management program (December 2002 to June 2003).
Established Money Works in 1996. Major projects have included counselling outsourced employees of Nortel and conducting employee seminars on pension plan changes, conducting pre-retirement workshops for two local school boards,developing retirement plans for Shoppers Drugmart owner-pharmacists, providing bookkeeping and investment accounting services to private clients, and providing one-on-one financial counselling/planning advice to members of an EAP plan. Provides tax planning and preparation for individuals and small businesses (non-incorporated).
